Darn Volcano

This . . . might make me miss this . . .
My family was all set to take a sans enfants trip to the UK on Friday. We have all been SO excited about it for months. Now a volcano in Iceland may prevent it. I'm so bummed.

When I was having my own little pity party, Brad reminded me that we weren't really the worst off in this situation. All of England will soon be out of produce. Many people's livelihoods depend on getting in and out of London. The airlines are losing millions daily. It's a huge international crisis. I guess I need to be grateful that the only thing I might lose is a vacation.

Confession . . .

I got totally hooked on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. The series is about a boy who finds out when he's about 12 or 13 that his dad is Poseidon and his mom is a mortal. Hmm . . . even that description sounds pretty lame. It's not that well written, and the plot is not fantastic, but I was totally sucked in. Just recently the first book was made into a movie. I figured I would probably see the movie, so I should read the book first. Then a friend, my brother, and a nephew all told me that they were okay (actually the nephew told me they were great). I borrowed my nephew's copy and I read 80 pages in my first setting, and I had to force myself to stop so that I could go to sleep. I finished the first one super fast, and I couldn't wait to start the second. Unfortunately my brother-in-law had that one and he was taking too long for my taste, so I figured I was smart enough to pick up on the plot, and just started the third book. I devoured the third and fourth books, but I ran into a problem when I went to read the fifth and final book. My nephew only bought the first 4! I checked both of our local libraries and their were 34 and 53 holds at the two libraries. I guess I'm not the only one who's addicted. Luckily for me, I have a brother that prides himself in being well-read in EVERY genre, so I picked up the fifth book from him on my way up to Salt Lake the other day. I must say this, the fifth was by far my favorite. The writing and the plot got better (I think the editors must have stepped in to help). I was so sad when it ended and I didn't have another one in the series to eat up.

So, what this boils down to is that I am in desperate need of a new book to read. I'd prefer quality literature since the last four books I read didn't fall into that category, but anything will do. I've discovered in the last few months (since I finished school) that I DETEST being without a book to read. Please give me any suggestions of great (or at least entertaining) books that you've read recently.

P.S. I'm SO excited to see the movie, but I keep telling myself to wait until it comes to Red Box or Movies 8 because, if it's anything like the book, it's not worth paying full price.

More birthday pics, as promised

Watch out! Here comes a bunch of pics! Sorry that they are all out of order. Annie just woke up from her nap, so my window to fix that is gone. Thanks to Brooke for the pictures!
